A Good Example?

So let me get this straight, are they saying that the purpose behind a sermon is to become a better person? Or are they saying that Bible preaching is less effective than our efforts at being good examples to our neighbors?
What do you think?

After Christ washed the disciples' feet, he said, "I have set an EXAMPLE here for you to follow..." and admonished them to wash one-another's feet. Actions speak louder than words. "Be DOERS of the Word, not hearers only." As a NON-CALVINIST :) brother in Christ who CHOSE TO BE PREDESTINED (humor mine)to this site, I recognize Reformed Baptist sermons as some of the most eloquent to be found anywhere in the Body of Christ. But we are called to LIVE and SERVE; LOVE GOD and NEIGHBOR; and be GOD'S WORKMANSHIP CREATED FOR GOOD WORKS THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR US THAT WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM.

An excellent way to show the world what it means to be Christian is not necessarily to preach the Word to them, which some might find obnoxious, but to act upon the lessons taught in that Word. By meeting a person who lives selflessly and acts for the good of others as well as himself, the unsaved will be compelled to wonder about what drives such an admirable person, and thus be drawn into Christ's circle. One can teach by works as well as words.

This is just an attempt to play on pithy sayings like "actions speak louder than words." I don't think they were trying to minimalize the effects of preaching, but that the greater message is to be DOERS of the Word preached. The arguments above is like the one over which came first the chicken or the egg. I say the chicken!
